About the Role
- Remote (EMEA) in CET/CEST timezone.
- Ownership of features from the first customer conversation to the version live on production, including writing specs, pairing with engineers, and overseeing production shipping.
- Focus on framing problems and writing specs rather than just creating Figma files.
- No PMs; designers and engineers run product, including talking to customers, framing problems, and deciding what ships.
- Small temporary teams, usually consisting of one or two engineers per project.
- Design leads the logic while engineering tests feasibility; designers bring the V1 and adjust quickly based on engineering feedback.
- Prototype-grade work using real components, states, and copy, sometimes using LLM-built prototypes before Figma.
- Handoff includes being active in the engineering channel, reviewing PRs, and verifying on production via staging QA.
- In-sync culture in the same time zone using Loom for reviews, Notion for specs, and Gather for quick communication loops.
- Engineers and designers spend under two hours in weekly meetings.
- Use of Claude to pressure-test ideas, draft specs, surface edge cases, and write test cases.
- Month 1: Ship your first design to production, get into the codebase and customer language, and sit on customer calls.
- Month 2: Own a full feature end-to-end, including customer conversations, problem framing, Figma, spec, engineer pairing, PR review, and production verification.
- Month 3 and beyond: Push the Design Systems forward and build the tools and skills that make engineers faster at design.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work in a small team (usually one or two engineers) and pair closely from the first prototype through to production.
- Own projects from beginning to end.
- Maintain the components and patterns that make design fast.
- Own the shipping process: write specs and run the ticketing workflow without PMs.
- Build tools and skills—such as Cursor rules, design QA skills, and prompt templates—that enable engineers to perform design work.
What You'll Bring
8+ years of experience designing B2B SaaS desktop applications as a Staff/Principal Product Designer or similar, specifically with dense interfaces like tables, filters, permissions, and settings pages.
Experience being the sole designer or one of a few in companies under 50 people.
A portfolio that emphasizes individual contribution ("I" rather than "we"), where you can name the engineers you paired with, the design decisions you defended, and the resulting user impact.
Clear and concise English communication skills for Slack, documentation, and calls.
Speed in Figma and proficiency using LLMs.
The ability to treat engineering feasibility as an input rather than a constraint, finding versions that ship quickly while maintaining quality.
Comfort performing product management tasks without a PM title.
Ability to hear feedback and iterate quickly.
